Last time I lived here we spent a lot of time outside with other families. We cooked food, popped popcorn, picked berries.  All of these things I MISSED DESPERATELY once we left Sitka.  And now that I get another shot at this glorious life I am ALL ABOUT GETTING IT DONE!!!

My first attempt at "getting it done" may have gone ...less than successful ...in the eyes of some observers.

Pete had his first night flight so the kids and I were on our own.  I decided I wanted to head out, make a fire, cook some hot dogs and take a hike.  I must admit to eating LOTS of fire roasted hot dogs....which lead me to believe I could make this happen on my own .  But after I thought about it....I remembered that I usually just showed up to an already ready to cook in fire.

So I brought 1 sheet of paper, 3 HEAVY logs, one pack of matches, 1 pack of hot dogs and a few buns.  And then I proceeded to literally burn through the matches and paper before the logs even got warm.  I was kinda bummed.  I texted my friend to tell her I was going home in shame...I could not make fire....

But...she had mercy on me and sent her son to "help" ....3 minutes later we had ...hot. blazing. beautiful. FIRE!!

Once I watched him I realized I did know how to make a fire I just ran out of supplies and ...surprise...surprise...patience!!

By the next time I blog I hope to be a proud maker of my very own fire...I am determined!!

  1. So nice of your friend and her son. It looks absolutely beautiful where you are!
I went through some of your archives and saw about your move - I'm just late to the party but glad to have found you now!

  2. I started following you just before the last move...I so enjoy the pictures you share. Thank you. It has been with great anticipation that I awaited your arrival in Sitka. Now if only I could get my act together enough to update my blog....maybe next week;) You are amazing!

  3. I give you some serious credit. You have ambition! I feel overwhelmed thinking about going into nature with my 1 kid by myself to cook dinner and you're doing it with 6. You must have been made to be a mommy.
