Hanging With The Cool Kids

One of the most horrifying moments in my life came the night of prom about 20 years ago.  This story is so typical me and I love having it as part of my....
"guess what happened to me once" stories.

My foreign exchange student date took me and my SATIN teal prom dress to a seafood place for dinner prior to prom.  We went with a group of people since he was not a legal driver.

For some reason I thought it would be a good idea to order crab legs while sitting with 10 other High Schoolers before we went to enjoy "An Evening to Remember 1992".
Once my heaping plate of crab legs arrive I dug right in, after I drowned each bite in massive amounts of butter.

All along I keep reaching under the table to wipe my hands on the napkin that was safely placed on my lap..or so I thought.  Somewhere between "I'll take the crab legs" and "Can you bring me more butter" my napkin had slipped off my teal satin dress.

I stood up to go to the bathroom and my exchange students date blurts out, "What happened to you?"
The whole front of my dress had butter and oil marks down the whole thing.
I thought I would die.

How does a napkin fall and the person eating not be aware of what happened???  That would be me.  I get so caught up in the excitement of things that I just loose myself.  I will usually end those situations saying things I shouldn't and using words I don't usually use.

Why a I telling you this story today???  This is how I feel right now.  I just sat down at a nice restaurant with 10 cool kids from school...I am at the cool table and I don't want to drop my napkin and say silly things...

Ginny from Small Things mentioned meeting me the other day and like 700 people have stopped by....
Elizabeth Foss shared a post of mine on her Shared Items list and people have been coming here in DROVES!!!

All of a sudden all I can think about is...
"I have nothing cool to say.  What if I am so boring people don't let me sit at the cool table anymore?"

And then I remember I am the only one who remembers I had butter all over my dress that night..most people just laughed and moved on thinking.."That's Lisa!!"
I got to sit at the cool table again and I just kept being me!!

So thanks for visiting if you are here from Ginny's blog or found me from Elizabeth Foss...both of them are as sweet as they appear to be!!

  4. My prom story is sort of like that. Glad the move went well, so happy to hear you are preggers! I have been reading along for quite a while now and I assure you, you are one of the cool kids. I would want to sit at your table. The best thing we have in common is our nervous chatter when meeting new people. I rethink the conversations as well and hope I did not monopolize them.
Also I am moving from CT to Winston Salem NC next week and although I only have 2 teenagers, my husband moved there in April so I have to do most everything by myself. I will be the new girl too....
Take care, settle in and best wishes for lots of happiness in your new home.
