A Great Book Give-A-Way

I was going to wait before I posted about this book until I was completely finished reading it..but I really can't wait to share it with you.  I am not exaggerating when I say this is the best book I have read in a long time.
...let me back up a minute.
Sometime last week I got an e-mail from a mom who just published her first book.  She wanted to send me a copy to read and possibly have a give-a-way.  I was a little starstruck at first..a real live author wants me to read her book....ABSOLUTELY!! So I waited for the book to come and when it did I got right into it.
I had to wait to late that night to even crack the book open..but once I did I knew it was going to be a stay-up-way-too-late-reading-a-good-book-night.  This book,
Stories For The Homeschool Heart is a true inspiration.  It is a compilation of stories written on various topics relating to homeschooling.  The stories are short little gifts you get to unwrap with each page turn.

One thing about the book that jumped out at me right away was these stories are not just for the traditional homeschooler..these stories are for any parent that embraces the idea that WE ALL HOMESCHOOL REALLY
The book reads a lot like a friends blog would.  Just little snapshots of really good stories.  Stories that make you think and wonder about long after you have read them.

I love a good story.  I love reading something quick and meaningful.  I love being able to see things from someone elses' perspective.  This book has all of those things.  And it happens to focus on something I love to learn more about..having a homeschooling heart.

I have to admit that this year has been a bit of a struggle for me in the "I LOVE to homeschool" department.  I know why I do this.  I know that I want to keep doing it.  But some days I just DON'T FEEL LIKE DOING IT!!! Since starting this book last week I have gotten my second wind.

These stories really have provided me with inspiration and a little nudge in the right direction.  I read about these amazing moms and families that truly have a homeschool heart and I realize...
"That is why I got into this..I want to become a mom like that!"

The main authors of the book are both moms to large families.  They have children from 5-22.  These are the women that I hope to be like.  I want to have stories to share like they have shared.  I want to know the things they have gone through to get where they are now.  This book gives you insight to their stories.

Who is this book for...
In the author's words
"It is a book for those who take seriously the awesome responsibility as primary educators of their children, regardless of their academic choices for them. It is for families with a 'homeschool heart' .  It includes all dedicated parents; those that teach their kids at home from birth through high school and those such as humor writer Tim Bete (who generously shared two of his stories) who seriously considered homeschooling but did not ultimately feel called to do so.

This book is not like other homeschool book out there...a how to guide, a what to do when you can't teach this guide.  This book speaks to the main issue of schooling and raising children..having a heart that is open to what God has placed upon it.  I love this book.  I want every homeschooling mama to have one.  You will love this book.

So right now I am having my 1st give-a-way of this book.  I was going to pass on my copy..but I have to own this book FOREVER.  I have to have this book on my shelf so I can come back to my favorite stories that I need to be reminded of.
To own your very own copy of this WONDERFUL BOOK just leave a comment letting me know how school  is going for you this year.  Is your heart in the game? Do you need a little boost? Public school moms, homeschool moms, private school moms..this book is for all of us.

I want the word to get out about this book so I am upping the give-a-way  here's a bonus round for some other mommy bloggers...
If you link to this give-a-way on your blog and you let me know that you did in your comment....then your name goes in twice and if you are chosen you will also get a piece of my friends AMAZING jewelry.
I am giving away 4 copies of this book.  I want you all to read is that good.

Let's just put it this way..if you knew how good this book was and you did not try to give it to me..I would be mad at you.  So me spread the word...let your friends know about this great and inspirational book by posting a comment and sharing a link to this site...
p.s you may be thinking..."mmm..I wonder why she had all those pictures of her daughter's for this give-a-way post?"
answer...I just liked them and I have to have pictures when I post...itsa kinda quirky habit I guess.

  10. Thanks for the book idea. We are in year 2 of homeschooling and it is nice to hear that some mommies/teacher struggle with good/bad days.....Ya win some and ya lose some. And somewhere in the middle they learn!! I just want to say that I am jumping into the blog world! I would love to hear from any of you great bloggers/teachers/mommies!!

  11. School is going well this year. . .very thankful for that!

  12. I want this book! Loved the photos of your girls.

  13. My oldest (four-year-old) has just started preschool at the local Catholic school. I'm seriously considering pulling her out to homeschool her. (We're homeschooling already, in addition to preschool.) I wonder how I'll be able to get everything done if I homeschool. We have a baby due in February. Can I do it all, and do it well??

  14. Homeschooling is having a slow start this year due to extracurricular nonsense that ends this week. Lesson learned. Look forward to reading the book, gifted or bought.
I also took some pics yesterday at our place Lisa if you want to get some ideas for Thursday! They're on my blog today!

  15. This book sounds like a great read! I love to read :-) LOL
Your girls are just beautiful! Great pictures!
    Have a wonderful day!

  16. I just started homeschooling this year! The first week was "rough"...but now it's going really well! I think we had to just get into the rhythm!! :) Your review sounds great! Can't wait to read this book!

  17. We won't start really homeschooling for another year or so, but I feel like I could already use some encouraging words!

  18. With a knee replacement surgery in the house this year, school is in SURVIVAL MODE! :) But, that's the bonus of homeschooling... getting a head start, knowing that this was coming.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  19. Your blog is beautiful and your photos are awesome.I am a new follower here from Indiana stopping by to say Hi!!!!!!!

  20. After reading the authors of this book's blog, I became very interested in reading it. Glad to hear you loved it so much. Anything that works on my homeschool heart will be much appreciated.
School has flown by so far with only 5 of my 9 children doing official "homeschooling" this year. I know the next nine weeks of school will be crazy, so the book will be a blessing.
Thanks for offering the give away!

  21. Every year homeschooling brings both blessings and challenges. Every year it is wonderful to have books, ideas, etc. to help the process along and remotivate me. Thanks for offering this give away. God bless.

  22. Sounds like an interesting read.
I do not homeschool, and to be honest I am pretty positive that I will never have the desire to do so.
But like you said, mothers are teachers, regardless of whether we are homeschooling or not. We are ALWAYS teaching at home, with our words and by example. So I'd be interested in this book.

Thanks for the giveaway opportunity! :)

  23. You sound so beautifully enthusiastic, x. I'm an early childhood teacher & a colleague & myself just set up a Montessori School.
I'm not working there currently as I'm at home with my 2 year old. Our 4 year old goes there 2 & a half days a week. So I consider myself a part time homeschooling mother & yes, I need a boost every now & then - particularly now. Thanks for your lovely give-away, infectious enthusiasm & photos of your beautiful girls & weblog. I linked the giveaway on my website. Thanks kindly, Katie xxx

  24. Honestly, our school year is going amazingly well. I really DO love home schooling, and have every year since we have done it. I think I approach life and raising my kids, with a home school heart. Not only does doing so bring me joy, but just the idea that we all are, brings me joy. With all of that being said, I am guessing I would love the book you speak of, because it sounds like it is about everything I am passionate about. Right up my alley, so to speak. I always love to read or hear about other's little inspirations, and stories of encouragement. Good luck to everyone!

  25. This book sounds great. This year has turned into a struggle for us cause we have hit the pre-teen years and have the pre-teen attitudes to go w/ it. Along w/ a 3 year old and 2 year old. Ahhh I don't know how people who have more kids do it.

  26. Just wanted to share I blogged about your give away and your cute blog. I am now one of your newest followers. :^)

Oh and I love the Ree @ Pioneer Woman!

  27. Hey Lisa! Just wanted to get my li'l bit o' noise in here....
Homeschool this year is, um, well, I just haven't gotten my groove yet. This is my first year, y'know, and I'm having a hard time focusing. Gwen is doing really well, but I think that's in spite of me, not because of me. Book giveaway! How exciting!

  28. Wow, this sounds like a great book! Thanks for having this giveaway!

School for me is going pretty well this year. Two main reasons: last year I had a newborn (and toddler and preschooler and 2nd grader), and this year, with everyone a year older, it just seems a lot easier. :)

Second, my dad just retired after 41 years of being a family doctor here in our small town; and he has volunteered to help out with he's in charge of math and handwriting for my 3rd grader and kindergartener. Imagine - a doctor teaching handwriting! We tease him that we'll have to buy a handwriting book for HIM so he can practice, too!! :)

    Have a great weekend!
